Behind the Music
This one took longer than it should have.
There were setbacks, and then there was just life, doing what life does when you've got plans. The past few months wore on me in a way I didn't see coming. They tested my strength, my resolve, and honestly my general appetite for the whole enterprise. There were stretches where the music was the last thing I could get to, and stretches where it was the only thing I could get to. Both were true, sometimes in the same week.
What I keep coming back to is that music heals. Not as a slogan, as a mechanism. When I sit down and play, something in me that was clenched lets go. I don't have a better outlet and I've stopped looking for one, so I've given myself over to this one completely, with everything I've got.
The title is deliberate. It's a request and a reminder at the same time. A call to whatever powers are listening, and to myself, to get both feet on the ground and stay there. Not to solve the whole year. Not to figure out what comes next. Just this moment, and then the one after it.
That's what the song is doing. It stays present. It doesn't rush toward resolution because I wasn't in a position to promise one, and it doesn't wallow either, because I was still standing.
"Hear Now" is what came out the other side of all that. I'm glad it exists, and I'm glad to finally hand it to you.
