Behind the Music
“Plains” took nearly four years to complete. The piece grew from my fascination with the quiet beauty of the American heartland, a landscape that can appear empty at first glance but reveals more the longer you remain with it. Light moves across open fields. Weather changes the horizon. Distance creates its own sense of scale and stillness.
I wanted the music to reflect the lives shaped by these places as well as the landscape itself. There is resilience here, but also tenderness, patience, and a deep connection to home. “Plains” offers a moment away from the speed and noise of modern life, paying tribute to the people and places whose strength is often expressed quietly.
